It’s part of sports and life…

Performers are always looking for ways to reach their full potential. While every individual has dreams and aspirations, each one of them is on a very unique journey. This journey comes with all kinds of obstacles for performers to overcome. Despite everyone’s individual path, when it comes to seeing a mental performance consultant/coach, they come for similar reasons.


What am I talking about?

I am talking about the reasons why athletes seek out an MPC’s services in the first place. This generally involves two reasons which can be categorized as proactive and reactive. While the reasons are unique, their concerns can generally fall into two categories. So let’s find out the differences between the two.


Proactive Consulting

It’s all about getting ahead or developing the mental skills to ensure that the performer is as prepared as possible. This includes performers who want to:

  • Take their game to the next level

  • Have more tools in their tool belt

  • improve overall well-being/wellness

  • Be more present

  • Increase focus

  • Work towards their goals

Reactive Consulting

  • Lack motivation

  • Have hit a plateau

  • Close to reaching burnout

  • Are underperforming

  • Are struggling with self-doubt/confidence

  • Are experiencing performance anxiety

There can also be a blend of the two reasons. A performer can come because they want to tackle something that has been stopping them from reaching their peak performance and also recognize that there are more benefits when they continue. Regardless of the reason, mental performance consulting is extremely beneficial for both performance enhancement and overall improved well-being.
