One-on-One Consulting is an important part of being a mental performance consultant. While mental skills are helpful to all, each individual utilizes these skills differently. A seminar is a series of workshops dedicated to one overarching theme in order to better performance. These are similarly structured to one-on-one consulting sessions and often incorporate observational sessions where needed. Naomi James Performance Consulting (NJPC) focuses on maintaining integrity during sessions and in life with a focus on being fair, respectful and honest at all times. NJPC is geared towards performance enhancement/betterment and the coping skills implemented are preventative in nature. As such, if their are mental health concerns, which are considered to be reactive in nature, and may require treatment, such and medication, that is beyond my scope of practice. It is my obligation, at that point, to refer out to other trained professional regarding these concerns. Where it pertains to mental health concerns, it is still possible to work with the client experiencing these concerns striclty in the context of performance, so long as proper treatment/referrals have been implemented.
Confidentiality is an important component of the work that I do. Regardless of whether the session is one-on-one or in teams/groups/organizations, confidentiality must be maintained. As a consultant it is my responsibility to foster a non-judgmental environment, which in most cases can only be achieved through confidentiality. I can share; general information with parents, organizations and/or coaching staff pertaining to the skills/topics being discussed. For example, when working with athletes, it is often useful if the parents/coaches are aware of the skills we have been working on. Further, with the clients permission, I can share the strategies used with specified individuals, as I am not always able to be present when my clients are performing. This assists with the accountability/stickability of the skills I implement with my clients. The one instance in which I am obligated to breach confidentiality is if the client poses a danger to themselves or others.
